DIY Baby blocks

I saw similar blocks on Etsy, and my budget wouldn't allow for them. Yikes!

So I decided to make my own.

Totally easy and inexpensive!

I just love the way the turned out!

First I went to my local craft store & bought nine 2.5" wooden blocks. They were a $1 each. I'm sure they go on sale from time to time but I'm in a time crunch here!

Start by sanding down the edges to round them off and make them smooth. This could be done by hand, but would be very tedious. I used our handheld electric sander.

I already had some scrapbook paper on hand, but picked up a couple extra sheets at the craft store. Then I used my 2.5" square punch to cut out the perfect little squares. These punches can be quite expensive, so I'd recommend borrowing one or waiting to use a half-off coupon if you're going to buy one.

Just break out the good 'ole mod podge! It's a water based non-toxic sealant.
Apply a coat first, then apply one of your paper squares. More mod podge on top. Be generous, you want your paper saturated. Clean up the edges though as you go.
I applied one last coat over the entire block after all my sides were done.

Done! Easy peasy!

Overall, I paid around $11-$12 for these. If I had waited for sales, it would've been even cheaper. But much better than the $40-$60 I would've paid on Etsy!

Mickey Mouse.

So, Riley is two!

I decided on a Mickey Mouse theme, since he insists on watching it daily and singing the 'Hot Dog' song.
This was on a much lower scale than his brother's Lego party.

Even though on a much lower scale, this party was equally as fun to plan.
Dollar tree was a must for this party.
Styrofoam disc painted black= Mickey Mouse!
I learned a valuable lesson here though.
You CANNOT spray paint styrofoam.....it's like acid to it. I just dissolved right in my hands.

These were yummy and easy to make. You MUST use the double stuffed Oreos as the head and only a half of the miniatures for the ears. I used Fondue chocolate to dip it in.

Got to love Etsy. I found these custom bags at Papernook super cheap.

Dollar tree styrofoam again. Aren't they cute? Easy-Peasy.

This is one of my favorite, absolutely easy recipes I found on Nutmeg Nanny.
Cheesecake stuffed Strawberries! Oh my!

Loved the little Mickey Mouse hands for the tongs. Super cute.
Water pitcher with Mickey ice cubes.

I just went simple and made cupcakes. I found the print outs on Etsy and the Mickey Mouse cupcake sprinkles at a local bakery shop.

We had a feast of Hot diggity dogs, chips, and baked beans.

Time to eat!!

Played a few games.

I picked up some paint chips at Home Depot and made a match game with it. I just glued black ones to the back of all the colored ones.

I little coloring.

Some balloon fighting with G-ma.

Amazing what you can do with posterboard. Mickey Mouse toss.

The boys loved this game.

Time for cake!

He looks mesmerized.

Look Mom no hands!

This card sings "Mickey Mouse". He kept opening it over and over.

Lots of Mickey gifts!

Happy Birthday to my precious two year old!

Lego Party

What an absolutely fun party to plan!

Giant Lego on the front porch

One of my favorite decorations was the Lego wall we built out of juice boxes we wrapped up
Chocolate Lego men

Favor table

Lego men soap

Lego men crayons
Best thing ever. I might just keep it. A huge Lego coloring wall!
Games:
I spy the Lego guy
Lego toss
Memory game. Find the matching lego

Guess how many legos in the jar. Robert guessed it exactly.
Lego race. They had to pick up a lego with a straw and take it to the empty bowl.
Food:
Cheese crackers.
Lego pizza. These were awesome! Club crackers, sauce, cheese and pepperonis, who knew?!
Loved the little ice cube blocks in the water pitcher. Thank you dollar tree.
Birthday build. All the friends sat in a circle and passed around the legos and added one piece at a time. They really got in to it.
Ahhh, the cake. Awesome isn't it. I can't take credit though.

I love Connor's face here.
Yes, the cake deserves this many shots.

And......clean up time. This one last chocolate lego was left for me. Yum.
